Summary:

We are seeking a Utility Designer to join our team. The work will be completed within the Wisconsin Public Service (WPS) service territories in Wisconsin and will consist of design services on electric/gas utility design projects. The ideal candidate will have experience in the utility industry, with a focus on design, construction, and experience utilizing GPS survey equipment, however candidates with any technical education or work experience will be considered and in-the-job training will be provided.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and draft utility layouts and specifications for gas and electric distribution.
  • Conduct site visits to assess project requirements and gather relevant data.
  • Meet utility customers to discuss equipment locations and other design requirements.
  • Collaborate with project teams to maintain compliance with utility standards and regulations.
  • Utilize design software to create detailed project drawings.
  • Use GPS survey equipment to gather and analyze site data for utility design projects.
  • Assist in the coordination and implementation of utility construction projects.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, contractors, utility customers and team members.

Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience in the utility industry.
  • Previous experience with overhead and/or underground electric distribution.
  • Proficiency in design software.
  • Familiarity with GPS survey equipment is a plus.
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle, and insurance for performing site visits.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Customer service skills.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to quality and accuracy.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Adaptability and willingness to learn new technologies and processes.
